EXECUTIVE P
Modimalisme SASU
Every time fashion makes people happy with a new collection, it
also creates unsold items. The faster fashion is renewed, the
more the surplus stock increases and the more complex its man-
agement becomes.
Modimalisme, a French supplier of circular solutions, supports
fashion brands in their CSR strategy to locally generate POSI-
TIVE and SUSTAINABLE values. Alongside French companies,
associations, artists, integration workshops and model makers,
we take care of the entire (re)design chain. Modimalisme spe-
cializes in transforming dormant textile stocks by giving them a
second life. They have put in place methods aimed at standard-
izing the upgrading process.
The company collaborates with local brands and talents to imag-
ine more responsible fashion. It offers consultations on the trans-
formation potential of unsold and surplus textiles through their
responsible and collaborative design and manufacturing model.
This also has the environmental benefits.
The following case study of Lille (France) based company Sabine
Dubuis Albisser is is presented to demonstrate the philosophy behind Modimalisme's offerings.
Sabine Dubuis Albisser, a company from Lille, France was set-up in 2020. It manufactures locally in order
to transfer the textile experience acquired generation after generation, to guarantee the quality of the
processes and to value manual work.
Today, the various fashion brands, produce more and more clothes, collections and thus offers for their
customers. However, sometimes the supply does not meet the demand and the brands are left with
millions of unsold pieces in stock. Modimalisme transforms unsold textiles into new clothes or accesso-
ries for sale on the shelves. Working with fashion brands that provide the state of unsold stock, the
company brings together workshops of seamstresses, designers and local model makers who imagine
the ways of transformation, the second life of unsold garments and create the prototypes of these trans-
formations. These are then entrusted to local workshops of insertion and confectioners, embellishers to
realize the product in miniseries. In 2021, an upcycled collection from 2,000 unsold pieces and 800
meters of fabric was marketed: bi-material trench coat, blouse, pants and tee-shirt are on the program, at
prices between 24 and 129 euros.
Following are the benefits of the strategy of using upscaling instead of recycling.
