The Materials Science and Manufacturing unit of CSIR, South Africa has the following vacancy in the Nonwovens and Composites Group within the Polymers and Composites Competence Area based in Port Elizabeth.
Senior Researcher: Nonwovens
About the job : The competence area, which has state-of-the-art equipment, has research focus areas comprising : nonwoven, fibre processing, fibre modification and fibre reinforced composites manufacturing and characterisation. The nonwoven laboratory is fully equipped with carding, cross-lapping, needle-punching, hydroentangling, chemical, thermofusing and calendar bonding techniques. The nonwoventesting laboratory comprises relevant nonwoven characterising facilities such as: image analysis; water permeation and transmission; porometer; surface tension and wettability measurement; air filtration; acoustic and geotextiles testing; etc.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience : Be dynamic and result-oriented.
- A minimum qualification of a doctorate in textiles from institutions offering broadbased textile curricula.
- A self-starter with a minimum of seven to ten years’ experience and track record in nonwoven research.
- Proven performance record by peer-reviewed publications, potential to generate external contract income and demonstrated abilities to conduct research independently in a multi-disciplined diverse team will be essential.
- Exposure to the international environment or at least two years of post-doctoral experience in reputable nonwoven research and development (R&D) centres will be an advantage.
Candidates with higher experience and demonstrated skills will be also considered at principal researcher level. Salary package is negotiable based on the track record of a researcher.
