Indian Textile Exports Demonstrate Strength, Poised for Continued Growth in 2025, Driven by Innovation and Strategic Partnerships
The TEXPROCIL, the premier organization representing India’s cotton textile exporters, announces a positive outlook for the Indian textile sector in 2025. This forecast is based on the industry’s demonstrated resilience amidst challenging global economic conditions and a strategic emphasis on embracing innovation and fostering strategic partnerships. The Indian textile industry is proactively adapting to a dynamic global landscape, with a keen focus on sustainability and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to enhance competitiveness.
According to TEXPROCIL Chairman Vijay Agarwal, the Indian textile industry has exhibited remarkable strength in recent months, defying global headwinds and economic uncertainties to achieve positive export growth. This achievement underscores the sector’s inherent adaptability and the commitment of Indian exporters to maintain a leading position in the global market. While acknowledging the persistent challenges stemming from economic downturns and supply chain disruptions, Chairman Agarwal highlights the positive impact of strategic free trade agreements, particularly with key partners such as South Korea, Japan, Australia, and Mauritius, which have opened new avenues for growth and collaboration.
India’s overall export performance for the first nine months of fiscal year 2025 (April-December 2024) is estimated at USD 602.64 Billion, representing a substantial 6.03% increase over the corresponding period in the previous year. The cotton textile segment, a cornerstone of India’s export economy, has also demonstrated commendable growth, with exports increasing by 11.98% from USD 0.94 Billion in December 2023 to USD 1.05 Billion in December 2024. Notably, cumulative exports during April-December 2024 for Indian cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, and handloom products registered a growth of 2.82%, reflecting the sustained demand for Indian textile products in global markets.
TEXPROCIL has been actively engaging with key government stakeholders to advocate for policies that support the industry’s continued growth. Recent meetings with Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, the newly appointed Secretary of Textiles, provided a valuable opportunity to discuss export targets and address challenges faced by exporter members. TEXPROCIL also presented a special souvenir commemorating its 70th Jubilee Celebrations, underscoring the organization’s long-standing commitment to the Indian textile industry. Further discussions with Shri Piyush Goyal, the Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, reinforced the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector to foster a conducive environment for export growth.
TEXPROCIL capitalized on the Heimtextil 2025 trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany, to promote ‘Bharat Tex 2025’, an upcoming mega textile event in India. The fair served as a platform to showcase India’s textile capabilities and attract potential buyers and investors. A high-level delegation, led by the Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh, visited Heimtextil to engage with Indian exhibitors, gain firsthand insights into evolving market trends, and interact with importers and textile machinery manufacturers. Shri Giriraj Singh inaugurated the India Pavilion, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting the Indian textile industry and promoting its global competitiveness. In discussions at the TEXPROCIL stall, Shri Giriraj Singh appreciated the display of products made of ‘Kasturi Cotton’ and appealed to all the Indian manufacturers to make all-out efforts to place Indian Cottons in the league of Global Brands.
Looking ahead, TEXPROCIL recognizes the need for sustained government support to navigate the complex global economic landscape. The upcoming budget presents a crucial opportunity for the government to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the export sector and ensuring its continued growth. TEXPROCIL is advocating for policies that address key challenges, including the risks associated with ongoing trade conflicts, demand slowdowns in advanced economies, and supply chain disruptions. Specific measures include making raw material available at less than international prices, removing import duties on cotton, extending credit support through the interest equalization scheme, and continuing remission schemes such as RoDTEP.
The global textile industry is undergoing a period of significant transformation, driven by evolving consumer preferences, technological advancements, and the rise of sustainable practices. TEXPROCIL is committed to helping its members adapt to these changes and capitalize on emerging opportunities. As the world undergoes a major shift in sourcing patterns, driven by strategies such as China-plus-one, TEXPROCIL is working to position India as a preferred sourcing destination for global buyers.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) projects that global trade volume could potentially rise from 2.7% to 3% in 2025, contingent on the resolution of conflicts in West Asia. TEXPROCIL emphasizes the importance of maintaining robust support for Indian exporters to navigate this complex global landscape and ensure that India continues to be a leading player in the global textile market. The organization is also aware of the growing trade and tariff concerns between India and the USA.
“The Indian textile industry has shown remarkable resilience in the face of global challenges,” said Vijay Agarwal, Chairman of TEXPROCIL. “We are committed to working with the government and our members to capitalize on emerging opportunities and ensure continued growth in 2025 and beyond. We’re urging our members to be vigilant and make the best use of opportunities that come our way, while continuing to innovate and embrace sustainable practices.”
