Voith EMA Electromechanical Actuator

The EMA electromechanical actuator is a linear and oil-free actuator. It is mounted to the control valve and actuates it directly. The control variable is the strokes of the piston rod. The rod position feedback is integrated into the drive.

For a University of applied sciences, cooperation with industrial companies forms a bridge for the transfer of scientific know-how – and one collaboration between Voith Turbo in Crailsheim, represented by Mr. Willi Zinnecker (Vice President Actuators and Governors), and the Institute for Fast Mechatronic Systems (IMS), headed by Prof. Jürgen Ulm at the Künzelsau Campus, deserves special mention. The partnership started 10 years ago has very quickly turned out to be a win-win situation for both sides. The university’s extensive expertise in the field of electromagnetism flowed into new Voith Turbo developments in the area of electromagnetic drive systems, such as the oil-free actuator EMA with safety features shown below, crowned by patents and research transfer prizes in 2012 and 2019. Thanks to these very successful R&D activities, high-tech actuators are assembled by a team of specialists in the Voith Turbo production hall in Crailsheim, followed by intensive tests. Then the actuators are shipped all over the world and installed in mission critical steam turbines for power plant & compressor applications at the customer’s premises. A remarkable cooperation arrangement that will hopefully last for many more years! #Voith #Career #VoithTurbo #Cooperation #University #Future
