Thane, India. – The Society of Dyers and Colourists, India (SDC India) organized a seminar titled ‘Colouring Textiles 2020: automate, optimize or perish!’ on 15th March, 2012. Colouring Textiles 2020 was held at Hotel Satkar Residency in Thane. This event was the third in the series of seminars planned by the SDC to get closer to the textile clusters. Colouring Textiles was well attended, with over 175 delegates (primarily from the Bhiwandi textile cluster) registering for the event.The seminar was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Prof (Dr) Mangesh D Teli – (Dean, SA & HR, ICT); the Chairman of SDC India Region Mr N B Kher (Chairman, SDC India Region), Dr S Y Kamat (President-elect, SDC) and Mr Vinod Kheterpal (MD, Bombay Crimpers).

Prof (Dr) Teli indicated the present need of the textile industry is to keep up with the latest innovations. He stressed on the ability to automate, so that the industry is geared up to meet the challenges currently, like cost pressures and quality of the finished products. Delivering the keynote lecture, Mr Vinod Kheterpal had the delegates completely engrossed. He drew the attention to the importance of radical technological reforms in the textile processing in terms of automation of the existing set-up. He said that these reforms were needed as human resources in the textile industry especially in Bhiwandi were an issue. The key note address set the platform for the speakers to follow.
Dr S Y Kamat was felicitated by the SDC India Region for being the first ever Indian President-elect of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC).
The first presentation titled ‘Automate & optimize in laboratory’ was delivered by Mr Dakshesh Desai (Premier Colorscan). His talk emphasized on the importance of automation in laboratory which then forms the backbone for the production. He also covered the various new laboratory equipment offered by various manufacturers.
Dr Sanjay Kulkarni (Sedo Treepoint) covered the importance of automation with regard to monitoring and flexibility to link it with existing machinery as well in his talk titled ‘Automate, Optimize & Process’.
In the final presentation of the day, Mr Rajesh Relekar (ATE Enterprises) delivered a talk on ‘Auto-dispensing solutions for dye houses’. Though this was the last topic of the day, the attention of the delegates was captured by the possibilities presented in auto-dosing systems for dye houses. Mr Relekar highlighted the fact that such systems are the need of the textile industry and many units in India have already adopted them.
The event ended with a vote-of-thanks proposed by Mr Sachin Pulsay (Secretary, SDC India Region) and was followed by a grand dinner.
