Punjab’s proposed Textile Park at Bathinda may attract over Rs 50,000 crores investment as over 24 industrial houses have evinced keen interest to set up textile units in the state.

The information came to light when Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal had a meeting with industrial houses in Chandigarh to woo them to invest in the state. A first of its kind Rs 15,000 crore mega integrated Textile Park is coming up at Bathinda, known. He said that the Textile Park would reap rich dividends for the cotton farmers. He said that “the state government has asked the industrialists to invest their money in this cotton belt. The industry has not only accepted it but also promised to pump in huge investment”.
Already SEL Group’s Greenfield Mega Integrated Textile unit has started work.
Meanwhile, Neeraj Saluja, Director, SEL Textiles Limited, said, “This project with the state-of-the-art technology having a capacity of 188,160 spindles in ring spinning, 40 million metres per annum in denim fabric and 8 million pieces of denim garments per annum, would come up within this year.” For this project cotton would be procured mainly from the northern belt consisting of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Accompanied by Industry and Commerce Minister Anil Joshi, N.K. Sharma, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Industries, Badal had a three hour long meeting with over two dozens industrial magnets, who have evinced great interest to set-up Textile Units in the state, under Textile Park policy announced by the Punjab Government. About 24 industrial houses have assured to put a combined investment of Rs. 50,000 crore in setting up their textile units in the proposed Textile Park.
They said that Textile Industry being the labour intensive industry had a potential to generate over one lakh direct and over five lakh indirect job avenues within next three years besides giving a remunerative price to the cotton farmers of Malwa belt.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that it was his personal commitment to make Malwa region a Textile Hub, which would export quality denim clothes to all multi-national companies in the world. He said that textile park was his personal dream project and he would ensure that no entrepreneur have to face any problem in setting up their units in industrial parks.
